Some of the flowers are in Lapis Lazuli. Two roses are made ofshell, a material frequently used of flower petals.
History: This tabletop reinterprets in thenineteenth century manner the naturalistic designs that evolved inthe Grand Ducal Workshop in the seventeenth century. There are twotabletops of this type in the Ugoline collection in Florance, onecircular and one rectangular. 19th century photographs of theproducts of that workshop include many examples similar to theGilbert Collection piece. Another florentine workshop specializingin this type of table belonged to Piero Bazzanti, at LungarnoCorsini.
